- The Cabin Cottage

Take the first right, just past Luna's Beach Cottage and the short gravel
road will take you directly to The Cabin - just behind Luna's about 100 yards
on the western shore.)
Wow! The sunsets seen from the quaint porch of The Cabin are beautiful!
You will enjoy fishing in the morning and the song of the loons at night. The
cottage is nestled on the edge of the cove frequented by pairs of loons
throughout the summer months. It is a perfect setting.
In 2002-2004 The Cabin was totally renovated and included a small addition.
The interior is a cheerful knotty pine and the front room has a door leading
to the deck that overlooks the water. The Cabin is small but complete with
a kitchen/living room combination, one bedroom and a small bathroom with
shower. It is ideal for a couple. However, there is a large tent platform a
few yards behind the cottage and it is suitable for a 4 person tent if others
are expected. There is a small dock to tie your watercraft or to swim and
fish.
- (Historical Note: This little cottage was conceived and built as a log cabin
in 1947 as an outpost for the Maine Warden's Service. The then owners of
Tallwood allowed the State of Maine to build this little cabin as a "base" for
the Warden's Service to have a float plane located on Maranacook. A few years
later Tallwood allowed an expansion of the permitted use at the northern end
of the peninsula and the cabin fell into disuse. You will be interested to
know that the original log cabin is "entombed" in the renovated facility and
with the original floor thus preserving some of the character of the former
building.)
